Quality assurance

Checked before it ships, not after

Stone that fails inspection at your end is expensive for both of us. Six checkpoints exist to stop that happening.

The principle

A defect found in Hyderabad costs a slab. The same defect found at your port costs a project.

Natural stone varies — that is the point of it. Quality control in this trade is not about eliminating variation but about controlling it: making sure the variation you receive is the variation you were shown and agreed to.

Every order passes the checkpoints below. Where a specification requires certified figures for compressive strength, water absorption or flexural strength, tell us at enquiry stage and we will arrange testing.

Checkpoints

What gets checked, and when

Block selection

Blocks are assessed at the quarry for colour consistency, crack lines and grain direction before purchase.

Gangsaw cutting

Blocks are sawn to the ordered thickness, with tolerance checked across the full slab width.

Surface finishing

Slabs are polished, honed, flamed, leathered or brushed to the specified finish and gloss level.

Shade grading

Slabs are laid out and grouped by shade so a single order ships as a visually coherent lot.

Dimensional check

Cut-to-size components are measured against the approved drawing before they leave the shop floor.

Packing & loading

Material is crated with edge protection and moisture barriers, then loaded and sealed under supervision.

Testing and documentation

Where your specification or tender requires it, we can arrange third-party testing and supply the results with the shipment.

Commonly requested test data
Compressive strengthOn request — third-party tested
Water absorptionOn request — third-party tested
Flexural strengthOn request — third-party tested
Abrasion resistanceOn request — third-party tested
Slip resistanceOn request — relevant for flamed and bush-hammered finishes
Radiation / NORMOn request — required by some import markets

Values vary between blocks and lots. Certified figures relate to the tested lot only.

Packing standard

  • Seaworthy wooden crates, fumigated where the destination requires it
  • Edge and corner protection on every bundle
  • Moisture barriers between slabs
  • Bundles grouped by shade and marked accordingly
  • Cut-to-size packed in installation sequence on request
  • Loading supervised and photographed before sealing
